IBGE, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, is the government agency responsible for collecting and disseminating statistical, geographic, cartographic, geodetic and environmental information for Brazil. It conducts the national census every ten years, gathering data on age, household income, literacy, education, occupation and hygiene levels. As a public foundation within the federal government, it operates under the Brazilian Department of Planning, Budget and Management. IBGE maintains a substantial national network, with 27 state units, 27 centers for documentation and dissemination, and 581 data collection agencies in major cities. The agency is based in Rio de Janeiro, and it also oversees environmental initiatives such as the Roncador Ecological Reserve, situated 35 kilometers south of Brasília. In 2025, IBGE launched the Triple International Forum in Ceará, a development reflected in subsequent updates.
