Idiap Research Institute is a Swiss research center dedicated to advancing artificial intelligence to address societal needs. Based in Martigny, Valais, it was founded in 1991 through a collaboration among the City of Martigny, the State of Valais, EPFL, the University of Geneva, Swisscom, and the Dalle Molle Foundation. The institute organizes its work around four research programs: Human-AI Teaming, Sustainable and Resilient Societies, AI for Life, and AI for Everyone, and supports a community of researchers including principal investigators, PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and master’s students and interns. Idiap emphasizes knowledge dissemination and maintains active industrial partnerships to connect research with real-world applications. Recent developments include Idiap's participation in the May 2025 Martigny Biometric Workshop as part of the CERTAIN Project, and prior collaborations such as with PXL Vision to develop deepfake detection solutions.
