Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) is an independent, non-profit health research organization based in Tanzania, with a history spanning more than five decades. Led by Tanzanians, it operates from offices in Ifakara, Dar es Salaam, and Bagamoyo, supported by a multidisciplinary team that investigates malaria, neglected and emerging tropical diseases, and maternal, neonatal and child health and demography. Its research is organized into groups covering biomedical and environmental studies, clinical trials, health-systems research, monitoring and evaluation, and policy translation, and it maintains collaborations with world-renowned centers and a strong record of peer-reviewed publications. IHI aims to inform policy and practice through evidence generation and collaborations with national and international partners in public health. In 2026, it joined a Transmission Zero initiative led by Imperial College London, a development that highlights its role in internationally connected, community-informed health research.
