The Illinois Press Association (IPA) is a long-standing organization founded in 1865 to represent Illinois publishers and is based in Springfield, Illinois. It is the largest state newspaper association in the United States, with more than 450 daily and weekly newspapers as members, and it is governed by a board of 15 newspaper executives drawn from an equal number of weekly and daily papers across regional districts. The IPA provides a range of legislative, business, advertising, educational, and legal services, supported by a professional staff, and it conducts professional education and government access programs for members. Its activities also include Newspapers in Education, literacy initiatives, First Amendment education, and coverage of evolving technology and new media through seminars and related programs. A 2026 development involved a cooperative project with the Illinois Farm Bureau.
