The Illinois Public Risk Fund is a self-insured pool dedicated to workers' compensation coverage for Illinois public entities. Founded in 1985 and based in Tinley Park, Illinois, it serves more than 700 public entities and governmental agencies across the state. Participating entities pool their workers' compensation exposures and participate in a unified program that covers loss prevention and claims management.

An elected Board of Trustees governs the fund, with oversight aligned to State of Illinois rules and guidelines. Unlike traditional insurers, IPRF operates as a self-insured pool where investment earnings accrue to the fund and any underwriting surplus is returned to members in proportion to their claims experience.
