Our mission is to provide support and leadership to educators as they promote and teach lifelong literacy. We are thrilled to be among the most vital literacy organizations in the country and hope that, if you are not a member, you will consider joining. In addition to a highly successful literacy conference that our organization hosts each year, we work hard throughout the year to support local reading councils across the state in providing a rich variety of resources and programs for educators. Members receive our highly acclaimed journal and a quarterly newsletter. Both of these publications are packed with relevant and interesting articles. The Illinois Reading Council has an exceptionally strong grant program in place -- one that allows us to provide funding to support our members work with children and young adults in both public and private educational settings. IRC has a variety of committees focusing on topics as varied as international projects, family literacy, newspapers in education, and legislation just to name a few.
