The Illinois Symphony Orchestra is a professional ensemble based in Springfield, central Illinois, serving the Bloomington-Normal and Springfield regions with symphony, chamber music, and concerts for kids. It offers educational programming for pre-K through high school students and engages wider audiences through guest residencies and community performances. In addition to its main concerts, the organization runs the Around the Town Chamber Music Series and a virtual Sunday at Six Recital Series. The organization expanded its youth programming in 2020 by absorbing the Sangamon Valley Youth Symphony, creating the Illinois Symphony Youth Orchestras with multiple ensembles that serve more than 150 students. It also collaborates on education and community engagement through a partnership called PEACE with the UIS School of Music and Illinois State University’s Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts and School of Music. In 2024, Taichi Fukumura was appointed as Music Director, taking the role effective July 1.
