Imago Theatre is a performing arts company based in Portland, Oregon, founded in 1979. Under the artistic direction of Carol Triffle and Jerry Mouawad, it creates transformative theater that crosses boundaries of language, age, and physical expression. The ensemble combines masks, dance, and slapstick with social commentary on the human condition, reflecting decades of study and practice. It operates from an 18,000-square-foot theatre laboratory and supports a diverse group including actors, dancers, designers, fabricators, and musicians. For more than thirty years, Imago has toured internationally, with visits to Asia and Europe, and its productions such as FROGZ and ZooZoo have appeared at venues including the New Victory Theatre, while No Exit was revived at Harvard’s American Repertory Theatre and the Hartford Stage Company.
