Academies for Social Entrepreneurship (ASE) is a small nonprofit based in Costa Mesa, California, focused on developing social enterprises—ventures that combine social impact with revenue-generating activity. Its flagship offering, the Social Enterprise Academy, provides training and mentoring and culminates in a venture competition to help organizations build the skills needed to attract growth capital and broaden earned income. While the program has historically targeted not-for-profit organizations, its design is intended to serve a broader set of social entrepreneurs. The academy also aims to strengthen overall organizational capacity by applying business practices and analytical thinking to day-to-day operations. ASE seeks to foster change in the local not-for-profit marketplace by integrating best practices from business and philanthropy.
