IMRF, the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund, is a state-wide public pension system created by the Illinois General Assembly in 1939 and began operating in 1941. It administers retirement benefits for non-teaching personnel across local governments, including towns, villages, libraries, park districts, counties, and school districts. Today it manages assets exceeding $50 billion and is among the most well-funded statewide public pension systems in Illinois. Based in Hinsdale, Illinois, it serves more than 442,000 members. IMRF serves more than 3,030 government units and has earned national recognitions for performance excellence, including a 2017 ILPEx Gold Award and the 2019 Baldrige National Quality Award.
