IMRF, the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund, is a state-wide public pension system created by the Illinois General Assembly in 1939 and began operating in 1941. It administers retirement benefits for non-teaching personnel across local governments, including towns, villages, libraries, park districts, counties, and school districts. Today it manages assets exceeding $50 billion and is among the most well-funded statewide public pension systems in Illinois. Based in Hinsdale, Illinois, it serves more than 442,000 members.
