Indiana University Northwest is a mid-sized public university within the Indiana University system, located in Gary and serving residents of Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland. The campus offers more than seventy undergraduate programs across several schools and more than twenty graduate degrees and certificates. It is home to the IU School of Medicine – Northwest, the region's only medical school. Students benefit from small class sizes and a favorable faculty-student ratio that supports personal attention and integrated academic and career services. The university emphasizes accessibility and affordability, with substantial financial aid and multiple delivery modes, including day, evening, weekend, and online courses. In December 2025, IU Northwest partnered with the Martin County Alliance for Economic Growth to collect data on transportation challenges facing local residents.
