The Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre (IBioIC) is a biotechnology research institution established in 2014 to advance industrial biotechnology in Scotland. Based in Glasgow and hosted by the University of Strathclyde, it connects industry leaders with academic expertise and government to move new IB processes and products toward global markets. IBioIC provides support to de-risk early-stage investment and helps both large and small companies accelerate product and process development, while facilitating collaborations across business, higher and further education, and talent development. It operates an open-access pilot-scale facility, FlexBIO, at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, expanding access to semi-pilot bioprocessing capabilities. The organization serves hundreds of companies and collaborates with multiple Scottish universities and research institutes to build a regional bioeconomy focused on greener, sustainable production using plant-based and waste resources.
