The Initiative Foundation is a mid-sized nonprofit organization based in Little Falls, Minnesota, with a focus on Central Minnesota's 14 counties and 163 hometowns. Since 1986, it has invested millions in the region through loans, grants, and scholarships, guided by a strategic plan with defined focus areas. The foundation awards roughly one million dollars annually in grants to 501(c)(3) nonprofits, local governments, and schools that serve residents of Central Minnesota. Its primary beneficiaries are local nonprofits, government bodies, and educational institutions across the region that rely on the foundation to support community initiatives. A notable 2026 development shows the foundation participating in a solar co-op initiative through partnerships with Solar United Neighbors and Rural Renewable Energy Alliance.
