Inovati is a small research-services firm based in Goleta, California, that focuses on deposition equipment built around a process called Kinetic Metallization. Its product lines include a fully integrated coating development system featuring a six-axis robotic arm and a portable handheld unit designed for field repairs. KM is a spray-based method that deposits metals and metal-matrix composites onto substrates, producing either surface coatings that modify characteristics or freestanding shapes after removal.

Substrates supported include ceramics, glass, thermoplastics, and metals, with feedstock comprising metal powders or metal-ceramic mixtures for MMC deposition. Because it is a solid-state process, only a small amount of heat is applied to soften the powder, increasing ductility so particles deform significantly on impact at speeds around 500 to 1,000 meters per second.
