The Institute for Professionals in Taxation is a nonprofit educational association established in 1976. It educates, certifies, and enforces codes of conduct for state and local income, property, and sales and use tax professionals who represent taxpayers, and it offers the Certified Member of the Institute (CMI) designation to those meeting its educational, experiential, and exam requirements. IPT serves more than 6,000 members representing roughly 1,450 corporations, firms, or individual taxpayers across the United States and Canada. 

Based in Atlanta, Georgia, IPT supports uniform and equitable tax administration and aims to minimize the costs of tax compliance while maintaining high professional standards. The organization provides educational programming tailored to tax professionals and has been active in recent years, including its 49th Annual Conference held in 2025.
