The Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) is a nonprofit scientific society dedicated to advancing the science of food and its application throughout the global food system. Since 1939, it has operated as a collaborative forum for professionals from more than 95 countries to learn, exchange ideas, and turn scientific knowledge into practical solutions that support a safe, nutritious, and sustainable food supply. Based in Chicago, Illinois, the organization engages a community of researchers, educators, industry professionals, and policymakers working to address food-related challenges through shared knowledge and professional development. IFT serves a broad, global audience within the food science field, acting as a convener across borders and disciplines and connecting public and private institutions. Its work is guided by values including community, integrity, passion, progress, and respect, which shape how it advances science and supports its members. In 2026, IFT will participate in the IFT FIRST Annual Event and Expo, where it will honor recipients of its Achievement Awards and induct the Class of Fellows.
