The Instituto Cervantes is a Spanish public institution founded in 1991 to promote the Spanish language and the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries, with head offices in Madrid and Alcalá de Henares in the Madrid region. It administers the Diplomas of Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE), issues official certificates, and runs Spanish courses, teacher training, and related cultural programming in collaboration with other organizations. Its governance draws on representatives from academia, culture, and literature from Spain and Latin America.

Its activities target learners of Spanish, teachers, and cultural institutions seeking language certification and cultural programming, positioning the organization within the government administration framework as a national language promotion body. In 2026, Instituto Cervantes affiliates participated in cross-border cultural collaboration, such as a joint event with the Armenian American Museum and Cultural Center of California led by Instituto Cervantes of Los Angeles.
