InterAction Initiative Inc. (InterAction) aims to improve communities by expanding inclusiveness and valuing diversity so that all individuals, especially those from underrepresented/marginalized groups and low-income backgrounds, feel more included, experience fewer incidents of harassment and discrimination from their community, and are able to flourish. 

At InterAction we offer strategic processes to build and sustain diversity and inclusion on college campuses and in communities through storytelling and the arts. Through our carefully crafted programs and services we facilitate the process of examining how issues of identity and difference play out in our everyday lives and channel them into strategies for building a better society. 

Why do we use storytelling? The great value of stories is that not only do they shed light on the realities people experiences in their everyday lives, but they also shed light on how to systematically transform communities for the better. Sharing and engaging in others’ lived experiences of racism, sexism, and other forms of discrimination provide an opportunity for communities to build empathy and come together to develop solutions.

We strongly believe in the power of storytelling and the arts to break down barriers and bring communities together. By asking communities to share and listen to each other’s stories we bring marginalized stories to the center stage. Our approach is three-pronged: empower stories, engage communities, and catalyze social change. Ultimately,  our goal is to activate students and individuals to be a force of positive transformation in their communities.
