IANDS is a research-service organization focused on near-death and related experiences. It serves as an informational and networking center for researchers, experiencers, caregivers, professionals, and interested members of the public from diverse regions around the world. It is described as the first organization in the world devoted to exploring near-death and similar experiences. Based in Durham, North Carolina, the organization operates within the field of research services and supports a broad community of stakeholders. It publishes a quarterly magazine called Vital Signs and a peer-reviewed journal named Journal of Near-Death Studies, and it coordinates conferences and regional support groups across North America and beyond. In March 2025, IANDS launched The Virtual NDE, a video that uses virtual reality to illustrate common elements of near-death experiences.
