ICDLA is a small organization based in Los Angeles, California, that has worked since 1980 to increase international understanding and cooperation. It arranges people-to-people exchanges between emerging international leaders and residents of the Los Angeles region, a program previously run under the name IVCLA. These citizen diplomacy efforts bring international perspectives to Angelenos while giving global policy leaders a direct view of the Los Angeles area. Exchanges begin dialogues that might not occur otherwise and help visitors gain a clearer understanding of the United States, its people, ideas, attitudes, and lifestyles. Each year ICDLA coordinates professional meetings, cultural visits, and home hospitality for nearly one thousand leaders from more than 100 countries. The organization emphasizes peace and prosperity as its guiding aim for the local community, the United States, and the broader world.
