The International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) is an independent think tank established in 1990 that conducts research, provides advice, and fosters collaboration to address sustainable development challenges. It maintains offices in Canada and Switzerland and operates globally, with a presence in more than 100 countries and a workforce of 501-1000 employees; its address is 111 Lombard Avenue Suite 325 Winnipeg, Manitoba, r3b 0t4 Canada. IISD focuses on five interconnected areas: climate, nature, social equity, sustainable economies, and international governance; it engages with intergovernmental forums, regional and local governments, civil society, and the private sector. As an independent organization, IISD aims to transcend political divisions by building broad coalitions and offering analysis to inform policy discussions. The organization pursues partnerships and collaborative initiatives with other entities to advance sustainability, including recent arrangements such as a partnership with Malaysia Sustainable Palm Oil and a collaboration with Wildlife Conservation Society through the CAPA Initiative; in late 2025 IISD announced the appointment of Nicolas Delaunay as Director of Strategic Partnerships, effective February 2026.
