The International Institute of Space Law (IISL) is an independent non-governmental organization focused on advancing space law. Based in the Netherlands, it gathers members from more than forty countries who are elected for their contributions to space law and related social sciences, and it pursues activities such as meetings, studies, and publications to promote the field and support international cooperation. The IISL operates as a not-for-profit foundation with volunteer members and boards, serving a global audience of scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and institutions active in space law. It holds official observer status at sessions of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space and its subcommittees, reflecting its role in international space-law processes. In May 2026 it hosted a virtual Spring Space Law Symposium, illustrating its ongoing activity in convening discussions and disseminating knowledge.
