The International Paralympic Committee is the global governing body of the Paralympic Movement, coordinating support for more than 200 member organizations, developing para sport, and advancing social inclusion. It also acts as the international federation for five Paralympic sports and is responsible for the planning, delivery, and governance of the Paralympic Games. Founded in 1989 as a non-profit organization, the IPC has been headquartered in Bonn since 1999 and operates with a multinational staff drawn from more than 40 countries. It is based in Bonn, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, and operates in the spectator sports sector through its role in Paralympic sport. A recent development includes the launch of Local Leaders courses for emerging National Paralympic Committees in June 2026, reflecting ongoing capacity-building efforts at the national level. The IPC aims to create an inclusive world through sport by expanding opportunities for people with disabilities from beginner to elite levels.
