The International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) is a sizable nonprofit organization representing more than 400,000 workers in the United States and Canada. Its members are primarily operating engineers—who operate heavy equipment and cranes, pipeliners, mechanics, and surveyors in construction—and stationary engineers who manage operations and maintenance in buildings and industrial complexes, with additional classifications in the petrochemical industry. The organization is based in Washington, DC, and operates within the non-profit sector to support workers in construction and related fields across North America. IUOE provides training and education through its International Training and Education Center, including programming at the Crosby, Texas facility. It has launched a member signup app to streamline access to training. The union participates in inter-union collaborations, including a national tri-trade solar agreement with IBEW and LIUNA to support utility-scale solar projects.
