IWMI is an international research-for-development organization focused on the sustainable management of water and land resources in developing countries. It works with governments, civil society, and the private sector to address water-related challenges and scale up effective solutions. The organization combines scientific research with knowledge services and products, along with capacity strengthening, dialogue, and policy analysis, to support the implementation of water management solutions for agriculture, ecosystems, climate resilience, and inclusive economic growth. Headquartered in Colombo, Sri Lanka, IWMI operates as a CGIAR Research Center with offices in 15 countries and a global network of scientists active in more than 55 countries. IWMI serves public sector bodies, non-governmental organizations, and private-sector partners involved in water and land-use planning and development, providing evidence-based analysis and capacity-building to inform policy and practice. In May 2026, IWMI announced a partnership with ASPIRES and the Tanzanian Ministry of Agriculture to develop the Tanzania Seed Sector Development Strategy, illustrating its ongoing international collaboration in development-relevant sectors.
