Ircon International Limited is a central Public Sector Enterprise in the construction sector, established as a government company under the Companies Act, 1956. It was created to apply the Indian Railways' experience to helping developing nations install or maintain their railways and to undertake railway projects for the private sector, with a broad scope that includes railway construction, electrification, signaling and telecommunications, as well as roads, highways, and urban and airport infrastructure. Headquartered in New Delhi, in the Saket district, the company functions as a sizable government contractor. The company has completed 280 landmark infrastructure projects in India and 90 projects overseas across 21 countries, including Algeria, Angola, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Nepal, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tanzania, Turkey, the United Kingdom, Zambia, Mozambique and Ethiopia. In October 2025, Coal India signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding with IRCON to jointly develop rail infrastructure for Coal India and its subsidiaries.
