Jackson Public Schools is a large urban school district based in Jackson, Mississippi, serving nearly 17,000 students in the state capital. The district operates 35 schools—including six high schools, seven middle schools, 22 elementary schools, and 10 special program schools—and these campuses are organized into six feeder patterns for high schools. It represents more than 80 percent of the city’s school-aged children in a community of about 170,000 residents across 104 square miles. In June 2026, the district announced several leadership appointments, naming executives responsible for talent management and development, academic support, and child nutrition. That same month, Millsaps College and Jackson Public Schools launched a five-year partnership intended to expand college access for JPS graduates.
