James J. Peters VA Medical Center (JJP VAMC) is a tertiary care medical center classified as a Clinical Referral Level 1b facility that provides a broad range of inpatient and outpatient health care services. 

The JJP VAMC is strategically affiliated with three of the premier academic medical institutions in New York City: The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Mount Sinai Health System, the Hospital for Special Surgery, and Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and New York Presbyterian Hospital. These affiliations provide academic support for medical students and resident training programs, enhance our research ability to provide the best in patient care and assure state-of-the-art medical expertise for the benefit of our Veteran patients. 

The facility is one of seven Renal Transplant Centers in the VA system, in addition to being the regional referral center for bariatric surgery, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, polytrauma, amputee care, microvascular head and neck surgery, and robotic surgery. The JJP VAMC, through its affiliation with the Cancer Center at the New York Presbyterian Hospital, is one of a small handful of VA Medical Centers with a Comprehensive Cancer Center designation. The Medical Center supports three Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC’s), located in Yonkers, White Plains, and Queens, serving Bronx, Northern Queens, and Westchester counties. 

The James J Peters Medical Research Foundation which was established in 1992 has a broad range of research activities that encompass biomedical, health services, rehabilitation engineering, mental health, and geriatric endeavors. The Foundation also supports various educational initiatives and other learning experiences, which benefit our employees and Veterans.
