Jane Franklin Dance is a small Arlington-based performing arts organization that collaborates across disciplines with musicians, media creators, visual artists, and community participants to create multidisciplinary dance works. Its performances have been presented throughout the Washington DC/Northern Virginia region and have reached international audiences in Mexico. The company has earned recognition such as the Creative Communities Award from the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region. Its projects have incorporated unconventional elements, including collaborations with the round wall skateboarding community, a life-size kinetic sculpture, site-specific architectural considerations, partnerships with dogs and their owners, and interactive live video and sound in public art settings. The organization runs ongoing education programs for older adults, including a performing group for dancers over 40, as well as youth camps and performances for children. Governance is provided by a Board of Directors that works with administrative staff to engage local businesses and nonprofit organizations in Alexandria and Arlington, cultivate donors, and offer guidance on program planning, marketing, and financial matters.
