JFCS—The LJD Jewish Family & Community Services is a mid-sized nonprofit based in Jacksonville, Florida, that offers a range of family and community services to people from all walks of life. Founded in 1917 as United Jewish Charities, the organization initially provided food aid and emergency shelter and has since expanded to include child protection services, adoption, and other community-based supports. It operates within the non-profit sector and adheres to a non-discriminatory approach to serving its community. Historical milestones include becoming the nation's only licensed Jewish child-placing agency in 1949 and achieving national accreditation for child and family services in 2005. In 2001, JFCS joined with the Boys Home Association to form Family Support Services of North Florida, Inc., the lead agency for administering child protection in Duval and Nassau Counties, and it has continued to broaden its partnerships with educational and community organizations. More recently, the organization has launched a Match Challenge and collaborated on the Jax Preschool SEEDS pilot program to bolster early education and family support in the Jacksonville area.
