JHP, Inc. operates in seven shelters for homeless and domestic violence survivors in Washington, DC and Prince George’s County, providing education, job development, and supportive services to help people transition from dependency to self-sufficiency. It concentrates on preparing clients to enter and remain in the workforce, treating steady employment as a source of self-esteem and a catalyst for lasting change. Founded in 1988, the organization has helped more than 9,000 homeless families and individuals acquire the skills needed to regain stability. Historical program outcomes include employment placement and housing assistance, with 298 people placed in employment and 254 finding permanent housing in 2007. The organization also provided shelter for 180 people, totaling more than 12,000 bed-nights and over 20,000 meals served.
