The Josephine Herrick Project is a New York-based nonprofit organization in the photography field that has operated for eight decades. It provides photography education and exhibition opportunities to people from under-resourced communities, including children from diverse and low-income neighborhoods, immigrant and refugee youths, individuals with disabilities, veterans, vulnerable seniors, and residents of public housing. By teaching photography and showcasing participants’ work in public spaces such as cafes, libraries, galleries, streets, and parks, the program aims to reach both local communities and broader audiences beyond participants’ immediate environments. The organization situates itself within the social impact segment of the photography industry, focusing on skill development, self-expression, and visibility for marginalized groups. Its activities occur in New York City, with the center of operations located at 64 Fulton Street, Suite 905, and the group functions as a mid-sized nonprofit with a track record spanning several decades.
