The Kansas Water Office (KWO) operates as a state environmental services agency focused on water planning, policy development, coordination, and related program activities. Its central statutory duty is to create and implement the Kansas Water Plan, a continuing framework for managing, conserving, and developing the state's water resources. In collaboration with the Kansas Water Authority, KWO reviews water laws and proposes changes to the Governor and Legislature to ensure policies address the needs of all Kansans. Based in Topeka, Kansas, the agency is a small-to-mid-sized government entity dedicated to coordinating water policy and planning. Established in 1981, the office serves to guide state governance by aligning regulatory actions with the state's water priorities.
