Karlstad University is a research-focused institution in Sweden that offers broad-based, multidisciplinary programmes for students both in Sweden and from abroad, while developing strong areas of research. Located on a single campus in Karlstad, Värmland, it provides a modern and stimulating learning environment, with a central library serving about 12,500 students. The university inaugurated the Vänern building in 2009, reflecting its ambitions for education and research. It also maintains a campus in Arvika, where the Ingesund School of Music educates around 300 students. As part of the research services landscape, the university serves Swedish and international students and collaborates with other institutions to advance education and research across disciplines. A notable development is the collaboration with Malmö University, the University of Skövde and Blekinge Institute of Technology to establish the Game Development Research Centre, intended to strengthen Sweden's position in the global gaming industry.
