KBS is Korea's public services broadcaster and a major player in broadcast media production and distribution. Headquartered in Yeouido-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, South Korea, the company employs between 1,001 and 5,000 people. The organization operates multiple channels, including three television channels, seven radio channels, and four DMB channels, funded by license fees and advertising. Its history includes Korea's first radio service in 1927 and the nation's first television service in 1961, with early adoption of HD production from 2001 and full HD broadcasting planned by 2012. KBS operates internationally through KBS World TV (launched in 2003) and KBS World Radio, and maintains 18 regional stations and 11 overseas bureaus, along with multiple subsidiaries such as KBS Media.
