The Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum, part of Washington University in St. Louis’ Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, preserves and expands its art collection and maintains a tradition of collecting significant works from its era. It pursues excellence in art historical scholarship, education, and exhibitions, and seeks to connect art with contemporary life while engaging audiences on campus, in the local community, and beyond. The museum’s holdings span 19th- through 21st-century European and American painting, sculpture, prints, installations, and photographs, and also include Egyptian and Greek antiquities as well as more than one hundred Old Master prints.

Its origins date to 1881 with the founding of the St. Louis School and Museum of Fine Arts at Washington University. Today the museum is part of the university’s Sam Fox School and operates with a mid-sized staff. It is located on the university campus at 1 Brookings Drive in St. Louis, Missouri, and its public hours are 11 am–5 pm daily, except Tuesdays and university holidays, with 11 am–8 pm on the first Friday of each month.
