Founded in 1956 with a single parade, the Kentucky Derby Festival is a not-for-profit organization based in Louisville, Kentucky, that coordinates a month-long slate of entertainment events tied to the Derby. Since its inception, it has grown to more than 70 events and is recognized as the largest and most extravagant community celebration of its kind. Each year, about 1.5 million people participate in Festival events, and the program's activities contribute more than $127 million to the local economy while raising over $500,000 for local charities. In 2024, the organization launched a six-week training program in partnership with the Louisville Bicycle Club to help participants prepare for Festival-related cycling events.
