Know Your Meme is an online encyclopedia and knowledge community focused on researching, documenting, and explaining the origins, history, and evolution of memes and broader internet culture. Founded in December 2008, the organization is based in Brooklyn, New York. It relies on the work of an independent professional editorial team alongside active contributions from community members, blending formal investigation with user-generated input. The site reaches a substantial monthly audience and is widely cited as an authoritative reference on the news, history, and origins of viral phenomena and memes.

Its research and reporting have appeared in major outlets such as the New York Times, The Verge, Vice, BBC, Hollywood Reporter, and TIME, underscoring its role in informing coverage of internet culture. Since 2016, Know Your Meme has been owned and operated by Literally Media. A notable development in its recent activity includes a May 2020 release of a report that analyzes themes and trends behind viral content around the onset of COVID-19 in the United States.
