KOTA-TV is a local television station operating in the broadcast media production and distribution space, serving Rapid City and surrounding markets in western South Dakota and nearby regions. It began broadcasting in 1955, becoming the second TV station in South Dakota and the first in the western part of the state; it initially carried programming from multiple networks, with CBS as the primary affiliation, switching to ABC in 1984. The station's ownership and expansion history include its founding by Helen Duhamel and subsequent growth under Duhamel Broadcasting Enterprises, which extended service to satellite stations across adjacent states, including KHSD in Lead, SD and KSGW in Sheridan, WY. After 58 years of family ownership, KOTA-TV and its satellites were sold to Schurz Communications in 2013, and the station joined Gray Television in 2016.

Today, KOTA-TV operates as part of Gray Television, delivering local news and programming to viewers in Rapid City and the surrounding region. In 2024, the station announced a partnership with Western Dakota Tech to support housing for twenty students, illustrating ongoing collaboration with local institutions.
