Kutztown University is a public higher education institution located in Kutztown, Pennsylvania, and is a member of the State System of Higher Education. The university traces its origins to 1866, when it was founded as Keystone Normal School, later evolving to Kutztown State Teachers College in 1928, Kutztown State College in 1960, and attaining university status in 1983. Today it operates as a comprehensive institution offering a range of accredited programs, with recognition from accrediting bodies including the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, the Pennsylvania Department of Education, and professional associations such as NCATE, CSWE, NCACE, NASM, and NASAD. In May 2026, Kutztown University launched an accelerated, tuition-free certification pathway intended to train more educators more quickly.
