Kvickly is a Danish retail grocery chain operating supermarkets that offer a mix of groceries and non-food merchandise. The concept began with the opening of its first store in Aalborg on 9 November 1961, introducing a combined shopping format that blended food and general goods. The name Kvickly reflects its origins in ideas drawn from international visits to the USA and Sweden. In its early years, each store was run by a local cooperative association, with a separate board responsible for operations; the 1970s saw the formation of a chain under FDB, establishing a centralized office at what is now Coop’s headquarters in Albertslund. The network has expanded through mergers, now consisting of 65 stores nationwide. The company is based in Albertslund, in the Hovedstaden region. In December 2020, Torben B Andersen was named chain director, marking a notable leadership change.
