La Cocina is a nonprofit food business incubator working to solve problems of equity in business ownership for women, immigrants and people of color. We provide talented entrepreneurs with affordable commercial kitchen space, training, access to sales opportunities, and community. Since 2005, La Cocina has supported more than 1,000 entrepreneurs through our local program and worldwide consulting. Today, our community is comprised of 100+ businesses, including 30+ restaurants in the Bay Area operated by La Cocina graduates. Seventy-one percent of La Cocina graduate businesses have remained active 10 years or more - double the national average of 35%. These entrepreneurs have earned recognition from James Beard Foundation, Bon Appétit, Food & Wine, and top restaurant lists by the San Francisco Chronicle and New York Times. The ripple effects extend beyond individual businesses. La Cocina entrepreneurs hire from within their communities, source from local vendors and farmers, preserve cultural flavors and traditions, and build wealth that stays in the Bay Area - all contributing to a more robust and equitable regional food economy.
