La Méridionale is a Marseille-based maritime transport company that operates daily mixed freight and passenger services between Marseille and Corsica under a public service delegation. Its four ships have served southern Corsica—calling at Ajaccio and Porto-Vecchio—for around seven decades. In December 2020, it inaugurated a freight-and-passenger route between Marseille and Tangier Med in Morocco. The company emphasizes sustainability, having adopted REPCET for marine mammal observation, the electric ship-to-shore connection at Marseille, and a novel particulate-filter system on the Le Piana. It counts more than 600 employees, operates four mixed-use vessels named Girolata, Kalliste, Pelagos, and Piana, and serves about 220,000 passengers annually with more than 550 kilometers of freight. In 2023 it joined the CMA CGM Group within its specialized maritime transport division.
