Laurens Electric Cooperative (LEC) is a member-owned utility serving the Upstate region of South Carolina. Founded in 1939 and based in Laurens, it provides electric service to more than 65,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers across seven counties, including Laurens, Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, Abbeville, Newberry, and Union. As a mid-sized cooperative in the utilities sector, LEC operates a regional electric distribution network to meet the needs of its member households and businesses. Beyond electricity, LEC has diversified through ProTec Services, established in 1995 to offer additional protections such as home and commercial security, appliance protection, whole-home surge protection, and medical alert services. The cooperative also owns amc, LLC Alarm Monitoring Center, which provides fire and security system monitoring from a UL Listed central station. In 2026, LEC announced partnerships with the Laurens County Development Corporation and the South Carolina Power Team to develop a park with flexible acreage and immediate development potential.
