After serving as a federal prosecutor in both: The United States Air Force, Judge Advocate General Corps for over 4 years; and as a Special Assistant to the United States Attorney in the Eastern District of North Carolina for over 2 years; Mr. Howie has decided to reopen his own private practice. Mr. Howie will maintain his Texas law license and continue his representation of his longstanding business clients in Texas. Mr. Howie will also continue representing clients in Texas courts and will begin to engage in lobbying the Texas Legislature upon his exit from the military service. However, Mr. Howie will primarily practice in Huntsville, Alabama. Mr. Howie will secure his Alabama Bar license in November of 2009. Upon starting terminal leave from the military in August 2009, Mr. Howie will begin accepting clients in the State of Alabama and will be practicing law in Alabama, Pro Hac Vice until he secures his Alabama law license. Mr. Howie's private practice will draw on his strengths developed as a litigation trial attorney during his military service. He will excel in representing clients in criminal defense due to his experience as a prosecutor. His time as a military lawyer will also serve him well in assisting veterans in claims against the Veteran's Affairs Administration and reservists in employment claims under USERRA. Mr. Howie's private practice will also draw on his experience at a prestigious law firm in Houston and his past private practice (before becoming a prosecutor) where he gained valuable insight into bankruptcy matters, debt collection matters, breach of contract actions, tort actions, medical malpractice claims and litigation, landlord tenant disputes, wills and estates, criminal defense, and various other matters.
