The Law Society of Alberta is a self-governing regulator for Alberta's legal profession, charged with regulating practice in the public interest under the Legal Profession Act. It is funded and maintained by Alberta lawyers, with no cost to the public, and it sets professional standards through Rules and a Code of Conduct, operating from Calgary, Alberta. The body serves Alberta lawyers and, through regulation, protects the public by upholding ethical and professional standards. In 2023, it joined its counterparts in Western Canada to develop the Western Canada Competency Profile, reflecting cross-provincial collaboration in regulatory practice.
