The Legal Ombudsman (LeO) is a Birmingham-based public body that resolves complaints about providers of legal services in England and Wales when customers have not achieved a satisfactory outcome. It aims to resolve issues quickly and informally. LeO's remit covers the majority of legal services, with the rules governing eligible complaints published on its website. Beyond handling individual complaints, LeO analyzes patterns and shares learnings to improve complaint handling and raise standards in legal services. The Legal Services Act 2007 established LeO and the Office for Legal Complaints to administer the scheme, with the Legal Services Board providing regulatory oversight; both bodies operate as arm's-length entities of the Ministry of Justice. The organization maintains a strategic plan, including its 2024-27 strategy.
