LifeFlight Eagle is a small nonprofit that provides life-saving air-medical transport for critically ill and injured patients from rural areas surrounding Kansas City, connecting them to higher levels of care unavailable at local community facilities. Headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, the organization operates four helicopter bases in Missouri and an additional helicopter dedicated to the Children's Mercy Critical Care Transport Team in Kansas City; all bases are staffed around the clock by a pilot, a flight nurse, and a flight paramedic, with aircraft managed by PHI Air Medical. Tracing its roots to 1978 and formed in 1996 through a merger that created a financially independent nonprofit, LifeFlight Eagle now serves more than 20 counties in Missouri and Kansas and collaborates with more than 240 agencies. It responds to requests from first responders and community hospitals, delivering an intensive-care environment during transport while moving patients toward needed surgical or specialty interventions at speeds around 150 miles per hour. In October 2023, LifeFlight Eagle launched a Ground Critical Care Transport program, expanding its service options beyond air transport.
