Lighthouse Louisiana is a century-old nonprofit based in New Orleans that operates in the field of Individual and Family Services. It works to help people with disabilities obtain employment, regain independence, and broaden perceptions of what they can accomplish while continually evolving to serve the community. Its manufacturing department employs blind, sighted, and low-vision workers to produce items such as paper cups, mess trays, and paper plates, with the proceeds supporting the organization’s services that are free to consumers. A portion of these products is sold to the United States Government for use by military personnel worldwide. Locally, Lighthouse Louisiana assists youth and adults in maximizing remaining vision, finding work, building computer skills, and managing daily life, while also providing American Sign Language interpreting and connecting Deaf or Hard of Hearing individuals with equipment and resources; since 2017 it has partnered with the Social Security Administration as an Employment Network.
