Based in Troy, New York, the Lighting Research Center (LRC) is the research and education arm of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Established in 1988 with support from NYSERDA, the center conducts research across lighting topics including energy efficiency, light and health, transportation lighting and safety, and plant pathology. It brings together researchers with multidisciplinary expertise to collaborate with manufacturers and government agencies on lighting solutions for a range of applications. It is described as the world's leading center for lighting research and education and the largest university-based lighting research and education organization globally. In addition to research, the center offers graduate degrees in lighting, awarding an MS and a PhD, and operates a 30,000-square-foot laboratory facility.
